Money market and cash funds

What is a money market fund?

These funds typically aim to provide a cash-like level of return, although this can vary between funds and the Key Investor Information Document (KIID) will record each fund’s specific aims.

Because they invest in a portfolio of short term securities, money market funds offer a relatively high level of liquidity at a relatively low level of risk. However, while they offer some stability compared to other, riskier investments, returns are not guaranteed.

These funds are suited to investors with short term goals, or those looking to lower the risk of their investment portfolio. They may not be suitable for longer term investment needs.

How do money market funds differ from the cash facility and cash savings?

The cash facility

Our ISA, Junior ISA (JISA), Collective Investment Account (CIA) and Collective Retirement Account (CRA) have their own cash facility.

The cash facility’s main purpose is to support the efficient running of investments by avoiding small trades that could limit other activity. For example, paying for fees and charges, or when making payments in and out.

The cash facility is designed for short term use and not for holding cash over a number of months or years.

The cash facility is not invested in money market funds, it is held in a range of bank accounts. It pays a set amount of interest which is paid each month.

For customers invested in our Collective Investment Bond (CIB), cash cannot be selected as an investment option and is only used transactionally. No interest is paid on this transactional cash.

Cash savings

We also offer a range of cash savings accounts on the CashHub.

The CashHub provides access to a choice of cash savings accounts from a range of banks and building societies. You can access the CashHub and view these accounts using your Quilter login, but the accounts are separate to any investment products (such as a pension or ISA) that are held with us.

The savings accounts pay interest on savings and the rates will vary depending on which account is chosen.

All of the savings accounts are eligible for protection up to Financial Services Compensation Scheme limits (subject to individual FSCS criteria).

You can find out more about the CashHub and what accounts and rates of interest are available on our dedicated webpage.
